In a thorough critique of the idea that to be means to be determined (”être comme être-déterminé”), Castoriadis’ thought can be read into a larger, postmodern movement where all representations of being, truth and reality are radically put into movement/play. The human world consists for Castoriadis of ”imaginary significations”, and yet the human world is real. Yes, not only does "the imaginary" refer to something real, it is the very source of all our representations of reality, being, truth and relativism.
